Currently working as an Assistant Principal at the Elementary Fundamental School in the Santa Ana Unified School District, I interviewed Principal XX about her vision for the school, including its administrators, teachers, students and parents. The Elementary school consist primarily of a student body of Latinos, a majority of who are bilingual and from lower socioeconomic backgrounds. Principal XX has been with the Elementary school for ten years, is Caucasian and speaks Spanish and English fluently. This report will summarize my interview with Principal XX, including her vision for the school and how that vision has changed over time. It will also summarize some of the challenges and ethical dilemmas associated with bringing Principal XXÆs current vision for the school to fruition.The growing diversity of the student population in U.S. public schools is no different for the Elementary Fundamental School. As such, Principal XXÆs vision for the school has significantly changed over the past ten years. In the past, Principal XX explained, ôMy main vision encompassed providing administrators, teachers, students and parents with the resources necessary to achieve high levels of learning and academic performance.ö Today, however, Principal XXÆs vision has significantly changed due to shrinking budgets, higher levels of accountability due to the ôNo Child Left Behind Act,ö and increasingly diverse student populations.
