The main idea expressed by Katha Pollitt in It Takes Two is the fact that men are as responsible for women for the number of babies in American culture, but lawmakers who are primarily men insist that all attempts to curb population rates be directed at women. This is true in terms of economic reform, birth control alternatives, and the legal system, ôIsnÆt it interesting that the male politicians who go all out for family values...always focus on womenÆs behavior and always in a punitive way?ö (153).It is not difficult to argue in favor of PollittÆs main contention when we look at laws that often punish women for having additional children but are lax or nonexistent when it comes to curbing the behavior of men that are equally responsible.
