The utopian community presented by B. F. Skinner in Walden Two is one that preconditions its inhabitants through positive conditioning to pursue the productive use of leisure in order to develop their own potentiality. Shunning traditional work roles, politics, military pursuits and other social institutions, the community of Walden Two minimize mundane tasks and other work through creative and inventive use of tools. Above all, this society represents an idealized learning environment, which is directed at all costs on empowering its individuals to become self-actualized and fulfilled human beings. As Frazier explains, ôàwe encourage our people to view every habit and custom with an eye to possible improvementö (Skinner 25). Despite the virtues of the utopian community in Walden Two, it is still a community that uses conditioning to fashion ôidealö citizens.
