Narrative Poem on Boewulf

Grendel spoke, the monstrous son of his mother: ôThe renowned son of Ecgtheow, Beowulf, revels in the rushing blood of my motherÆs wrested head. Angry warrior, this kinsman of Hygelac, kills my mother aft murderously turning his mighty sword on me. She clutches and claws his armor clad visage, clearly championing my dreadful death. But still this son of a mother himself, stands against my mother steely and tall. Then the son of Ecgtheow saw the strong old sword, survivor of some number of war-sports. The savage warrior of Scyldings, slaughter-bent, struck she, my mother, across the neck, felling her to the floor with one fierce stroke. This savage sight seemed something to sing over as my mother fell on the floor, yet this savage beast Beowulf sang rejoicefully of his work. I do not fool myself that I an more noble than this warrior, a ridiculous monster stinking of the dead. Man, children, beasts have I murdered, but mothers more than Beowulf I have not murdered.Much from my foe from West-Dane massacres have I endured, but murder of my mother meant I would brook no more.
