Suicidal Behaviors of Asian American Youths

In Lau, Jernewall, Zane, & Myers (2002), the researchers provide the findings of a research study that identified correlates of suicidal behaviors among Asian American youths admitted at an outpatient clinic. The researchers relied on medical records of "ethnic-specific mental health outpatients" to define correlates of suicidal behaviors, (Lau, et al., 2002, p. 199). The sample population consisted of 285 Asian-American youths, ranging in age from 4 to 17 years. The study considered one of the most at-risk factors for suicide among the population to be parent-child conflict and age.
