Two Projects

This is an excerpt from the paper...

This document includes two assignments. Each assignment is in separate sections of this document, and each assignment is paginated separately. The assignments included in this document are as follows:

Project 1 - Paper discussing information system elements:

Project 2 - Paper discussion office automation and group collaboration software: CIS- Discussing Selected Elements of an Information Management System

Input methods refer to the method by which data are entered into an automated (computerized) information system (Huffman, 2005). In this discussion, consideration is given to data found in printed questionnaires, telephone surveys, bank checks, retail tags, and long documents.

With respect to printed questionnaires, scanning software exists that allows the automated capture of the data responses and entry of the data into the information management system. With respect to telephone surveys, the data responses may be entered directly into an information system by the personnel administering the telephone questionnaire, or speech recognition software can both capture responses and enter the data in the information management system. Alternatively, questionnaires may be prepared and administered online by a software program such as Adobe Acrobat Capture, which provides for automatic data entry as responses are entered into an electronic form (ôAcrobat Capture Adds Content Quickly - Cluster Edition Lets You Easily Share Hard-Copy Data Onlineö, 2000).

mputer session is ended. Tapes typically are used for off-site and on-site back-up copies of entire systems or parts of information management systems. Tapes can store massive volumes of data that are easily transported physically. Tapes, however, are not as efficient for data processing as are hard disks. Computer Speed Several characteristics of the components of an information system affect to speed of operation of a computer. Characteristics considered in this discussion are as follows: RAM, clock speed, data on hard disks, data on CD-ROMs, and data on floppy disks. Both the volume of RAM installed in a computer and the processing speed on RAM affect computer speed. Generally, the more RAM, the higher the computer speed, and that higher the RAM processing speed, the higher the computer speed. Clock speed refers to the rated speed of a computerÆs central processing unit (CPU). Other factors remaining equal, the higher the clock speed, the higher the speed of a computerÆs operation. Data contained on hard disks tends to be more easily accessed that data on either CD-ROMs or data on floppy disks. Easier accessibility translates into higher computer speed. Access speed is measured in terms of the time required for CPU an
