Isaiah

This is an excerpt from the paper...

Background: Isaiah means "Yahweh is Salvation,ö or alternatively ôSalvation of Jehovah" or "Jehovah Saves." It is believed that Isaiah was born around 760 B.C., and his ministry covered a period of more than forty years. He was born into an influential, upper class family. He influenced the foreign policy of the nation as the royal chaplain to the king. He may have spent his entire life in Jerusalem.á The Book of Isaiah is viewed as one of the most important books of the Old Testament.

While little is known of the personal life of the prophet Isaiah, he is considered to be one of GodÆs most gifted prophets. Isaiah began preaching during the Assyrian crisis at about the time Assyria defeated and destroyed the northern kingdom and was threatening to invade the southern kingdom. The book of Isaiah includes a collection of prophecies, with the common theme being a message of salvation. The northern kingdom of Israel had been overrun, and the people were in captivity. Isaiah writes that the new king greater even than the beloved king David. Wi

This is the manner in which the Holy Spirit speaks of great and remarkable events, in order to elevate the minds of men. The Prophet Isaiah tells his readers to be attentive to the passage, and to consider this extraordinary miracle performed by God. This name Immanuel was bestowed on Christ on account of the fact the only-begotten Son of God clothed himself with human flesh, and united himself to us by partaking of our nature, and finally dying for our sins. Therefore, he was called God with us, or united to us, and his name would not be relevant to anyone who was not the Son of God. The gospel of Matthew 1:18-25 explains that Jesus was born of a virgin. Matthew reads: ôNow all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying: Behold, a virgin shall be with child and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Immanuelö (Matthew 1:22-23 The New American Bible). Matthew references the Old Testament Hebrew Scriptures as an explanation for why
