Emotional Intelligence and Loneliness Research Report The research problem for this project was to determine whether there is a correlation, either positive or negative, between emotional intelligence (EI) and loneliness. The hypothesis was that people who are high in EI are less prone to loneliness than those who are moderate to low in EI. As detailed in earlier reports, some research has shown that EI was positively correlated with life satisfaction and had a negative correlation with loneliness, meaning that people high in EI generally did not tend to be lonely and those low in EI did tend to be lonely. The purpose of this project was to confirm or deny those findings by sampling subjects that would be tested both for EI and loneliness and correlating their scores.
For the purposes of the project, a group of 48 test subjects 24 male and 24 female, all between the ages of 18 and 27 were given EI and loneliness testing in the form of the BarOn Emotional Quotient Short Form (B
