Postmodern Perspectives
This is an excerpt from the paper...
When dealing with a concept such as ôpost modern,ö the authors choose to define it through the obfuscatory view of Walter Truett Anderson who said that the transition to a postmodern approach ôdoesnÆt lend itself to simple summaries.ö That definitely appealed to the authors who always (at least in all of the chapters save the one on GST) opted for the complex. If the complex could also be poorly stated, it was even more ideal. They base their chapter on his four primary assumptions, which they quote in full, so I shall do the same. A post-modern company is identified by:1. Self- concept : Identity or self concept (i.e. our ideas about who we are) is not ôfoundö in fixed social roles or traditions but ômadeö or constructed out of popular culture (e.g., the mediaÆs portrayals of work and family on television and in films serve as resources for understanding the self).
