Diversity is much harder to manage than homogeneity; instead of troops of virtually identical people progressing in the same direction, diversity can be more akin to a chaotic environment in which people that are vastly different are all marching to the tune of their own drummer and going in a variety of directions. Moreover, while homogeneous environments are easy to maintain because they are the status quo, diverse environments take more effort to maintain because they require new initiatives and solutions than have been used successfully in the past.

Some aspects of workplace diversity can be considered both pros and cons.
