University of Phoenix Marketing

This is an excerpt from the paper...

The current educational revolution, characterized by MacGregor (2001) as a cyber-revolution, is an artifact of the information technology (IT) revolution which preceded and facilitated it. Implicit within this cyber-revolution is a trend known as distance learning in which new technologies are employed to deliver educational programming and content to students at various academic levels. A hosted solution involving a program developed by consultants can save hundreds of thousands of dollars and ensure the ongoing success of a training program. There are some disadvantages associated with online training efforts. Bigley (2006) pointed out that not everything can or should be taught online. Certain kinds of training must be conducted in traditional learning environments in order to be effective. Additionally, one must ensure that the content that is placed online is conducive to online learning. One must also consider whether or not an online training and learning project can then be evaluated through real world measurements focusing on improvements in students' performance after they have
