Personal Statement to New York Law

There are certainly plenty of law schools in the United States to choose from, so why did I choose New York Law? There were several reasons. First, I was looking for a school that would give me practical law experience. I wanted to learn information that I would be putting to use, not obscure information that I would never need again, and New York Law has a reputation for providing a practical and comprehensive law school education.

Second, I wanted to pass the bar exam. According to the 2007 New York law school rankings by bar exam results, New York Law ranked fifth out of 15 with a 90% pass rate-a stellar score compared with the bottom-ranked school's 79% pass rate. Moreover, New York Law's improvement in this area over 2005 results was 16%, demonstrating that the school is getting better at a rapid clip.

Third, I am impressed with the school's history. Not only was the school founded as a protest against dictated teaching methods, but also, following a long and illustrious history, it is still relevant today and not just sitting on old laurels. Its 21st-century goals are ones that reflect the true issues of our day-innovation, integrity, professionalism, and diversity.

Those are the logical reasons that I chose New York Law School above the many other possibilities available. However, the reasons that affected my decision most were all reasons of the heart. I visited several law schools early in my process of choosing a law school, and of them all, New York Law felt the most like me. It just fit, and I felt both at home and exhilarated to be there. In addition, I chatted with students at every campus I visited, and the conversations I had at New York Law went farther to convince me than any other. Every New York Law student I talked to praised the school lavishly, and all without exception said that if they had the choice to make all over again, he or she would once more choose New Y...
