Haley (2004:1) discusses the primary orientation of the culture-specific approach as one where there is a heavy emphasis on the counselor examining his or her own attitudes and racial beliefs. There is also work on issues related to oppression and to other racially relevant topics. In all matters, the counselor using the culture-specific focus is said to view clients as both individuals and as members of a group.
