Klein (2008) has proposed a "peace scale," which is intended to progressively measure the "nuisances" of peace between the two opposing poles of "rivalry zone" and positive peace. With regard to the comparison Ghana, Nigeria, and Liberia, this system appears to be valuable because although one can generally observe the absence of positive peace in these three countries, the "peace scale" suggested by Klein allows for a more nuanced view of the differences in quality of peace in these countries. Klein's scale includes five items, which range from rivalry zone (1.0), to positive peace (0.0) with negative peace level (0.75), negative peace level (0.5) and positive peace level (0.25) in between these two opposing poles (Klein, et al., 2008, p.71-75).
