Cost, however, is a relative factor, as the effectiveness and the efficiency of software programs is of paramount importance. This project provided a basis for a comparative evaluation of effectiveness, efficiency, and cost factors in relation to two alternative approaches to the development of new data management and processing software for the XYZ Company.
Five hypotheses were formulated and tested in this project. These five hypotheses were stated as follows:
Hypothesis one: There will be no significant difference between software users and software developers with respect to the effectiveness of software developed by in house programmers and that developed by outside consultants. This hypothesis was stated and tested in the null form.
Hypothesis two: There will be no significant difference between software users and software developers with respect to the efficiency of software developed by in house programmers and that developed by outside consultants. This hypothesis was stated and tested in the null form.
Hypothesis three: There will be no significant difference between software users and software developers with respect to the development cost of software developed by in house programmers and that developed by outside consultants. This software was stated and tested in the null form.
