Hand searches, x-raying of luggage, and scanning of passengers was not enough security to deter terrorists from finding ways around traditional security methods. Over the past decade terrorists have become much more sophisticated in getting around conventional airport security measures. They, too, have progressed in their evil goals through the use of technology, like plastic explosives. However, if one believes a review of the literature, terrorists and others who wish to confound traditional airport security measures did not have to work very hard at it. Reports of lax airport security are common in the literature, from New York’s J.F.K. to Los Angeles’ L.A.X. In the past decade, there have been numerous reports of major breaches in airport security in the media.
