Gangsta Rappers appear to believe in the concept that art imitates life, as their own lifestyles are often as filled with violence and sexuality as is their music. Many rappers have been shot or killed and a lot of them have rap sheets from past and present behavior. Young people see these rappers with an attitude and behavior that seems to support the concept that money buys anything in America. Most young people believe that money buys you anything you want in American society, from sex to justice. Not all rappers have records, but some of them have very well publicized images. Tupac Shakur, who was murdered 3 years ago, had many encounters with the law. He was arrested for aggravated assault, charged with shooting two off-duty police officer in Atlanta in 1993 (charges were later dropped, and he was accused of beating a limousine driver in Los Angeles. These run-ins with the law were a preliminary build-up for Shakur being found guilty of physically threatening another rapper with a baseball bat, and his charges and conviction for sexual abuse, a conviction that saw him in prison serving up to a possible four-and-a-half year sentence (Sims E3).

Tupac glamorized rap and the violent lifestyle associated with it. He portrayed the lifestyle as one of glamour and gunplay in some of his rap videos. On his stomach were the tattooed words Thug Life and Shakur died living one. Gangsta Rap artists are often held in disdain by other gangs and groups, so a list of potential enemies against Tupac is long.
