The latent stage begins when the symptoms of secondary syphilis disappear, and will damage the internal organs, including the brain, nerves, eyes, heart, blood vessels, liver, bones, and joints. Signs and symptoms of this stage include difficulty coordinating muscle movements, paralysis, numbness, gradual blindness, and dementia, serious enough symptoms to bring about death.

Gonorrhea is caused by the bacterium Neisseria gonorrhoeae, which easily grows and multiplies in warm, moist areas of the reproductive tract such as the cervix, uterus, and fallopian tubes in the female and the urethra in the male and female (CDC, 2005). It can also grow in the mouth, throat, eyes, and anus.
