two centers with four classrooms were assigned to the parent-staff-child training condition (parent), four centers with eight classrooms were assigned to the staff-child training (staff), and three centers with four classrooms were controls with no training.

The study findings were consistent with the previous results of other research on early childhood development, which also showed that parental role models have an important influence on childrenÆs attitudes and behavior.

Falsification principles were utilized since there was a hypothesis and therefore a null hypothesis to prove false.

New data for this study included that which was related to positive outcomes of the ECSEL program as well as those showing the significant effects of parent/staff training.

Variables for the study included the independent variable of the ECSEL program training (patent/staff training, staff only training, no training) and dependent or outcome variables related to instrumental goals: improved conflict resolution skills, lower levels of aggression, increased cooperativeness, and greater social competence.

The treatment intervention for this study was the ECSEL program, which is an approach to the treatment and prevention of behavior problems in preschool children. The ECSEL program includes parent training with conflict resolution education and instruction regarding parenting practices, which are designed to promote constructive conflict management, through the enlistment of parental help for conflict resolution and problem-solving. This program involves the parents since research has shown the important influence of parenting on childrenÆs behavior. Since behavioral problems have been demonstrated as early as the toddler and preschool years, this program is designed to assist the young child in an effort to correct and prevent current and future problems.
