Meaning of Time and Money

If two workers worked eight hours, but one made 20 widgets and the other only made 10, the one who made 20 would receive more money than the one who made 10. While it may have been beneficial to each worker to work quickly in order to make the maximum number of widgets, the phrase is unlikely to have originated with the boss in this situation.

But with the introduction of salaried workers, who are paid the same rate regardless of the number of widgets produced, it now became the bosses' responsibility to make sure that the employees produced the maximum amount possible in order to get the most for their money.
