A study by Mosley, et al. (1984) investigated the effects of computers on the motivaiton of sixth grade children to continue with computer-assisted instruction (CAI). The results indicated a strong relationship between student attitudes and return to task (See Kulik & Kulik, 1985 for review.)

The use of microcomputers in education has undergone a vast change over the 10 years since it has been used in classrooms. Originally, computers were used to teach advanced students programming skills. Next it was used to teach math concepts to, again, advanced students. With the introduction of cheaper hardware and with the development of more usable software, schools began experimenting with using computers to teach anything from advanced programming to simple computer literacy classes.
