Physician conflict of interest, professional control, and the regulatory environment in the United States in the late-1980s are also relevant factors. All of these factors may be considered together within the context of ethical economics. Ethical economics, as it applies to the delivery of health care services by non physician health care professionals, may be defined as an absence of any economic relationships -between physicians and other health care professionals - which could lead to access restrictions, non competitive price increases, or the delivery of services which are either not required, or for which the need is only marginal.
