Brahman to such an extent that nothing else existed. In the joyful state of samadhi (deep immersion in meditation), he experienced bliss, union, and nothingness as the sole reality. Samkara insisted that both the material and mental worlds were real, as were both the dreaming state and waking state. All is a part of the essence of Brahman, although perhaps of different orders.
