where there is injustice the best and most moral thing that a Christian can do is simply bow to the approach of humiliation.

But Christian humility should not be misunderstood as a deliberate project of misery. The wash of experience repeatedly reminds all human beings that life can be marked by disappointment and unwelcome and uncomfortable surprise. We are meant to be humble before the Lord, conscious of our mortality and of the fact that our lives are a divine gift and nothing that we, except secondarily, have accomplished (Ashley 225). That does not, however, mean that we are not responsible for the lives we lead or for the experiences we create. The imperfect judgment and still more imperfect behavior of human beings all too often result in the discomfort and disappointments that mark the situation of injustice.
