us Christ and missionizing is an important part of their belief system. They may be considered as Christian conservatives, and somewhat less radical than their ultra-fundamentalist counterparts. Ultra-fundamentalist Christians are those militant Evangelicals who hold to the inerrancy of the Scriptures. They keep their churches strictly separate from Christians with different religious points of view, including the more moderate Evangelicals, or Christian conservatives. Provenzo even notes a further distinction:

The current vocabulary used to describe the political

agenda of Jerry Falwell, Phyllis Schafly, and their colleagues is inadequate. The term "new Right" does not properly apply to these leaders and their groups because the new Right is a separate, distinct--and more secular--brand of politics (even though the two cooperate extensively). The term "fundamentalist" is likewise misleading because many fundamentalist Christians abhor the political values of Falwell and his friends. Similarly, to call these activists "conservatives" is inaccurate, and distasteful to bona fide conservatives.

The terms "ultra-fundamentalism" and "moral majoritarian" could be used to describe the most radical element for religious reform in the public schools. The ultra-fundamentalists are extremely active in politics and religion. The moderate Evangelicals are more content to maintain their own religious schools, and are consequently less militant about trying to change the public schools. Of course, since it is part of the duty of a good Evangelical Christian to missionize, moderate Evangelicals would like to see a shift away from secular humanism, but lack the political interest or clout to fully realize such change. Finally, conservatives are not necessarily religious, so the secular conservative will not be part of the discussion.
