There are four different paths to this goal and the path you choose depends on what sort of person you are.If you are an intellectual, you may choose the way to God through knowledge, or "innana yoga." If you are a more emotional person, you will be comfortable with "bhakti yoga," the way to God through love. If you are an active type, you may choose "karma yoga" which is the way to God through work, and which can be practiced as a subdiscipline of either innana or bhakti yoga. Finally, if you are of an empirical bent, you should choose "raja yoga," which consists of performing a series of mental exercises and observing the results (expected to be union with the Atman).
