The ability to utilize a language which contains symbolism expands the possible subject areas of discussion and gives the speaker the ability to communicate about things which are distant in either time or space. It increases the precision of the communication. Spoken language allows the cognitive mind to increase in ability.
Verbal language gives the child a handle on abstract concepts. It also allows for greater flexibility in communication and ideas.
