. Similarly, granted Othello's prudence and judgment, it is hard to believe he has named an inexperienced young man over "honest Iago."

There is no trace of such preferment elsewhere in the play. Surely Desdemona would have mentioned it in her arguments, and Iago himself would have retailed this grievance to Cassio, Montano, and anyone else he could get to listen. Not even Emilia mentions it when Cassio asks her to provide him access to Desdemona (III.1). Yet she willingly helps a man who has allegedly been unjustly promoted over her own husband. In fact, no mention of this "wrong" is ever made, and even when Othello does name Iago as his lieutenant (III.4.482), neither one indicates that any breach between them has been healed.
