The woman feels she has been punished though she has done nothing wrong, and she may react with guilt as if she has done something wrong. The fact that there is less physical trauma in a date rape has a negative effect as the woman feels she may be accused of having enjoyed the contact and of not having suffered (Witkin Lanoil 6-7).
