uses. It seems like intelligence tests are a sorting device brought to use for academic purposes. The school system in this country has been dominated by white upper and middle class groups for centuries, so it should come as no surprise that intelligence tests are skewed in favor of those social strata.

Teaching, textbooks, and schools as a whole have been oriented toward educating students to function in a white middle class society. Intelligence tests are a small part of a larger societal system that works in terms of the society as a whole entity and the forces that control it. It would not be possible to totally change intelligence tests and make them culture free without completely revamping the idea of accomplishment, skill, and schooling.
