(1) Desensitization of the child's fear through either role playing or in vivo approximations of attending school for the entire day.
(2) Delivery of reinforcement for attending school, even if for a brief period of time, usually followed by reinforcement for the gradual lengthening of the time the child is required to stay in school.
(3) Use of matter-of-fact parental statements that the child will go back to school; also avoidance on the part of parents of lengthy or emotional discussions with the child regarding school attendance.
