There are various problems which may lead to a failure in communications. For example, failure often occurs during the decoding phase of the communication process. During that phase, the receiver has to interpret the message of the transmitter, and there are many factors which may cause this message to be misinterpreted. Other problems may arise during the feedback process in communication. Generally, "from feedback, the sender is able to assess whether or not the communication has been received, interpreted, and acted upon as expected or desired" (Imundo 75). However, it is possible for the transmitter to misinterpret the feedback of the receiver or for the receiver to fail to provide adequate information for proper interpretation. Thus, it can be seen that the interpretation of feedback is a managerial skill which can be learned through practice and application of effective communications techniques.
