The advantages of such a plan far outweigh the disadvantages. First of all, there is the financial advantage. Marijuana and cocaine consumption could be taxed along with cigarettes and alcohol. These so-called "sin taxes" would help fund a wide variety of social programs such as education, housing for the homeless, and job training to help people help themselves. These taxes would also help pay for the war on "bad drugs," as well as continuing the public-awareness campaign which attempts to get people to stop using drugs all together.
