In addition to a comprehensive glossary that offers explanations of legal terms, Roszkowski has included six appendices, a table of cases, table of statutes and an index to assist the reader. The first appendix is the complete text of the constitution of the United States. The constitution provides the overriding laws in the United States, so its inclusion and position are appropriate. The complete texts of the Uniform Commercial Code, Uniform Partnership Act, Uniform Limited Partnership Act, Revised Uniform Limited Partnership Act with 1985 Amendments and the Revised Model Business Corporation Act as amended through February 1991 comprise the remaining appendices.

It would be impossible for a single book to exhaustively provide all the legal references that a business professional will require in the course of their work, but Roszkowski succeeds in acquainting his readers with the major points of business law. Having been exposed to the areas in question, readers are likely to recall that there may be additional research necessary when they come across similar circumstances in their own activities.

There are four areas in particular that are of special importance to technical personnel, such as mechanical engineers: contracts, torts, patents and trade secrets. A contract is a promise or set of promises for the breach of which the law gives a remedy, or the performance of which the law in some way recognizes as a duty. A tort is a private or civil wrong or injury (not a breach of contract) for which courts provide remedies in the form of action for damages. A patent is the exclusive right to make, use and sell an invention for a some period of time. A trade secret is any formula, pattern, device or compilation of information which is used in a business, and which gives the user an advantage over competitors.
