II.A. AID Atlanta is a nonprofit organization serving persons affected by the AIDS epidemic. A 22-year-old entity, AID Atlanta is the largest private-sector entity in the Southeastern US that sponsors educational outreach aimed at arresting spread of HIV/AIDS. Georgia's Department of Human Resources reports that the state has some 27,000 cases of AIDS, or the eighth-largest affected population in the country.

In addition to conducting educational seminars for civic, church, business, and special-interest groups, AID Atlanta carries a case-management load of 7,000. In the background of the organization's services is acute awareness of the fact that socially marginalized and economically disadvantaged persons, whether urban or rural, ethnic minorities, women, and adolescents have been disproportionately affected by AIDS in recent years. The most vulnerable persons in our society increasingly account for society's HIV/AIDS caseload (AID Atlanta, 2004).
