The immune system is comprised of a number of elements, including white blood cells. These white blood cells include lymphocytes and phagocytes. Lymphocytes are either T lymphocytes or T cells and B lymphocytes or B cells. T cells are formed within the thymus and are primarily responsible for the body's defense against cancer, fungi, intracellular bacteria, some viruses, transplant rejections, and delayed skin reactions such as those produced during a tuberculosis skin test. These are further categorized as helper T cells and suppresser T cells. B cells may originate in the bone marrow and are responsible for producing antibodies or immunoglobins.
