In the case of displaced homemakers, program administrators of an effective career counseling program targeted at this group need to determine whether the objectives of the program are compatible with the displaced homemakers' unique needs in order to minimize the dropout rate. Many potential participants have diverse needs, depending on their situations, which can undermine or enhance their readiness for participation in the program (Laabs, 1994).
