riorities often lead to the development of anxiety associated with work in women administrators and managers. This anxiety often is translated into avoidance motivations, which are detrimental to the performance of women in administration and management.

Too few women are given the opportunity to demonstrate what they can contribute. Women tend to be the first to face staff cutbacks when budget problems occur. Male staff members tend to be skeptical about the abilities of female staff members. To really find out what women can contribute, the prejudices must be swept away to give them a change.

The research performed for this study was descriptive in nature. In this context, the research described the perceptions of the members of the research sample with respect to the promotion of women to positions of management and administration.

The data required for the investigation of the research questions were collected through the administration of a survey questionnaire. A copy of this questionnaire is included as an appendix to this study. This questionnaire sought respondent perceptions with respect to (1) the existence of discrimination against women seeking careers in business management and administration, and (2) the factors underlying any such

discrimination. The survey questionnaire was administered to a sample of 30 women managers and administrators working in the

Vancouver metropolitan area. Random procedures were employed in the selection of the sample. The population from which the sample was drawn was the membership of a business and professional women's organization. The researcher assumed that the membership of this organization was representative of all female managers and administrators.
