Responses to the 20 questionnaire items were provided on a sixpoint scale that ranged from "never" (1) to "almost all the time" (6). Anxiety levels were determined through scoring the responses to the 20 items in the second part of the Survey.TXT. Theoretically, anxiety levels could have been as high as 120 and as low as 20.

Anxiety levels were used in their raw form, i.e., if a subject's anxiety score from the modified version of the Taylor Manifest Anxiety instrument was 52, that is quantification of the subject's anxiety level that was used in the data analyses. The remaining data variables were manipulated for purposes of data analysis. GPAs were divided into two groups, with GPAs through 3.2 assigned to Group 1 (low), and GPAs 3.3 and higher assigned to Group 2 (high).
