Given ConAgra's requirements, the survey instrument proposed here will focus on three main areas: Overall Job Satisfaction, Employee Perceptions of ConAgra's Attitude Toward Employees, and Work Environment. Each section will include questions aimed at uncovering specific sources of dissatisfaction. In order to facilitate administration and analysis, the survey will primarily include close-ended questions. Each section, as a whole will include the opportunity for respondents to comment in order to catch unanticipated areas of concern.
The proposed format of the study will accomplish three main objectives. First, it will focus responses on non-pay issues by asking respondents to rank satisfaction levels with current policies and non-pay based benefits. Second, the brief format will require relatively little time to complete, and close-ended questions are generally more easily understood and answered. Finally, administration of the survey can be done on-site with little or no supervision and the instruments can be easily configured for computer analysis with relatively few labor hours required for categorization of open ended responses.
ConAgra can then implement changes in its policies and procedures at one location, and re-administer the survey to see if improved employee satisfaction was accomplished. In addition, the survey can be used to uncover site-specific problems and to aid in a determination of site-specific programs that may be beneficially implemented on a company or division wide basis.
In short, by requesting general rather than specific information the survey will maintain its relevance throughout ConAgra's operations.
