: (1) attachment security; (2) accuracy of working models; (3) communication in joint problem-solving and confiding tasks; (4) extent to which spouses validated or agreed with others' working models; (5) the quality of partner's listening in confiding tasks; and other measures.
Several findings were observed. First, security of a partner's working model was positively associated with improved control of emotions and higher levels of marital adjustment. Also, the more accurate the model, the better the level of marital adjustment and the better the level of communication when spouses undertake problem-solving and confiding tasks.
There were some gender differences. For example, attachment security in males was related to the degree of wives' rejection during problem-solving tasks while wives' level of security attachment covaried with the quality of husbands' listening skills in confiding tasks.
