A. Nutritional programs: A Meals on Wheels program functions within the community. A WIC program is conducted by Bellvue Hospital.
B. Fresh and processed foods are widely available within the community. These foods are available in food markets and at food banks. Prepared foods are widely available in restaurants and at shelters and missions within the neighborhood.
C. Nutritional education programs are conducted at municipal community service centers within the neighborhood. Some programs are also conducted by neighborhood churches.
A. Sanitation: Sanitation services and fresh, potable water is provided through services operated by the municipal government. Litter remains a major problem throughout the community because of both the large transient population and the tendency of residents to discard waste on the street.
B. Ecological concerns: Asbestos pollution associated with Consolidate Edison operations is a problem in the community. Air pollution and noise pollution are also serious environmental concerns.
