pt to provide health care to the elderly disabled was delineated by Singh and Abudejaja (1983) in their study of the disabled in Libyan Arab Jamahiriza. The authors noted that the government required all disabled persons (including the elderly) to sign up at a registry, a procedure that allowed for collection of statistical data regarding their age, type of disability, and kind of health care needed. However, no data on the usage of medical facilities was reported.

Ghosh and Mukherjee (1989) studied heath care in a district in West Bengal. Subjects consisted of 700 families served by the Chanditala Primary Health Center. Findings showed that about 19.2 percent of the families utilized clinic services and about 13.8 percent received effective medical care. The high income group utilized services the least (4.1%) compared with the low income group (17.7%). Utilization rates significantly declined with distance from the health care center. Unfortunately, the authors did not provide a breakdown of usage rates for the elderly.

Mburu (1979) has discussed the health care situation in Kenya. It is stated that part of the problem in effective health care delivery is that in developing countries so much of the population is rural.
