depression to maladaptive parenting. The authors also introduced the concept that parents who themselves experienced maladaptive parenting in turn tend to practice maladaptive parenting. The authors then linked this pattern to parental misperceptions of child behavior. The theoretical and conceptual framework, as it may be deduced by the reader, appears to be consistent with a wide body psychosocial literature, which, at least, is not inconsistent with the state of nursing practice.
In the introduction to the article, the authors stated that the "primary goals of this pilot study were to identify maternal psychosocial correlates of unrealistic expectations of children and child abuse potential, and to examine the relationships of these factors with child behavior" (Sachs and Hall, 1991, p. 226).
