Minority Students in a Teacher Preparation Program

Black institutions as well as other colleges and universities in general have attempted to reduce the minority teacher shortage through their teacher education programs, and standardized test preparation tutorials. Linton and Searfoss (1989) discuss a minority teacher preparation program offered by Arizona State University.

The authors noted that one of the primary barriers to minority entrance into teacher education programs at Arizona State University as well as at other colleges and universities is passing the PPST ; it can be noted here that its influence as a barrier was the reason why the PPST was selected for examination in the proposed study. Arizona State responded to this barrier by implementing a minority recruitment/support program which was evaluated by Linton and Searfoss (1989).
