Both Shibaura Engineering Works Ltd. and Tokyo Electric Company Limited
had significant international operations prior to merger in 1939. These
operations were curtailed during Second World War but overseas sales and
manufacture were recommenced in 1950s and increased substantially in 1960s.
In every year since 1970 overseas sales have accounted for more than 12 per
cent of consolidated net sales.
On May 11, 1949, Toshiba's shares were listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange
and Osaka Securities Exchange.
