The introduction/problem statement established that longterm care nursing is not held in high regard by the majority of registered nurses, and that the perceived conditions associated with the performance of longterm care nursing are an anathema to most registered nurses. If one accepts Ms Pfaff's contention that highquality nursing is required in longterm care facilities, then the problem statement is satisfactory. While not denying that highquality nursing is required in longterm care facilities, however, it must be noted that Ms Pfaff did not make a case for such a requirement in the introduction/problem statement. The problem statement and, in turn, the study would have been stronger had such a case been made by the author of the article.

The Literature Review in the Article

The literature review in the article was not comprehensive with respect to theory related to job satisfaction/ dissatisfaction. The theoretical base for the article and the underlying study rested on the author's review of Frederick Herzberg's twofactor theory of motivation and hygiene (Pfaff, 1987, pp. 5152).
