The second difference between Christian and secular counseling that is discussed by Strong (1973) concerns the notion of responsibility. Christian counseling emphasizes personal responsibility for one's life situation and circumstances. Secular counseling emphasizes personal rights. More insight into the nature of responsibility as viewed by the Christian counselor has been provided by Adams (1973:77). He states that regardless of a person's background, regardless of the influences, circumstances and events of his childhood and early life, God holds the Christian responsible.
