Peking Opera Blues

s effort to conspire against the possibility of a reinstatement of democracy. Sheung Hung is a mercenary street singer who only wants to make enough money to leave Beijing to become a star in America. Pak Neil is the daughter of the proprietor of a local opera house. She would like to perform in her father's opera house, but she cannot because the theater has an allmale tradition.

The plot is complicated but generally involves the three women and their male assistants fighting against the army, guerrilla groups, and greedy businessmen as they seek to reestablish democracy. There is a democratic statement in the fact that these are three women rather than three men, since women re excluded from much of Chinese public life at the time and so represent a class that has been disenfranchised.
