The validity and reliability of the instrument, which measured perceived levels of stress, were established by the developers of the instrument (Holmes and Rahe, 1976).

The three research hypotheses were tested through the application of analysis of variance procedures (ANOVA) to the data. The ANOVA was structured to measure relationships between the independent variable and each of the dependent variables, as well as the interactive effects of the independent variables on the independent variable. Statistical significance of the results of the data analysis were established at the p<.05 level.
